Data Management and Governance Tutorial

While
data governance is clearly more than Master Data Management (MDM),
master data does feature prominently in the theory and application
of governance. This is partly because master data spans organizational
and system boundaries as it is shared throughout the enterprise,
and thus has enormous potential to accumulate issues which only
governance can resolve. It is also partly because more care has
to be taken when updating master data, since one item of master
data have unpredictable effects on any downstream systems that process
it. This calls for well-implemented stewardship programs. In addition,
master data may also require governance when it is decided that
an enterprise needs to adopt standards for it. The process to define
these standards and have them accepted across the enterprise is
necessary if master data is to truly be an enterprise-wide resource.
This
tutorial focuses on the major points where governance is required
to make MDM work. Attendees will learn:
·
What Master Data is, and what sets it apart from other classes of
data
· Establishing governance for Master Data
· Stewardship for Master Data
· Setting Standards for Master Data
· Organizational issues when implementing governance for
Master Data
· How product features may interact with governance needs
· MDM design implementations that require governance
