Data
Righteousness
A "hands-on" session on how to skillfully address the
issue:
"My Way or the Information Highway"
Most
organizations attempting data management, data governance, and/or
data integration, face issues in human dynamics that can be the
key to success or failure. One such issue is when a person or organization
insists that their way is "right" and they do not appreciate
other possible perspectives.
This
issue comes in many forms, for example:
"Do not slow our project down with data governance hurdles!"
"We need to manage data consistently at an enterprise wide
level" versus "No, we need to just do whatever is necessary
to get the data for our project within budget, on time, and meeting
requirements."
"We should use the 'Kimball' data warehouse approach over the
'Inmon' approach". "Data models should communicate requirements
in business terms versus use flexible structures for a solid database
foundation that accommodates change."
This
presentation will share how this issue has surfaced and been handled
in many real-life data management programs and the presenter will
share tactics, strategies, and techniques for skillfully addressing
this issue. Furthermore, participants will have an opportunity to
practice these specific, well-researched techniques in the context
of very common data management scenarios.
