Brian Berness is a Senior Manager responsible for Regulatory and Risk Management for the US Chief Data Office of TD Bank. Brian works closely with the OCDO and businesses in providing guidance on regulatory expectations and best practices for risk management as it pertains to data governance, quality, vendor management, data innovation and others to TD in the United States and in Canada. Brian has spent nearly two decades in legal, compliance and risk roles in the financial services industry both inside business lines and in second line of defense functions. Brian has a BA from Rutgers College and a JD from Seton Hall University School of Law and is a licensed attorney in NY and NJ.

Malcolm Chisholm has over 25 years of experience in data management and has worked in a variety of sectors including finance, insurance, manufacturing, government, defense and intelligence, pharmaceuticals, and retail. He is Chief innovation Officer with First San Francisco Partners where he specializes in data governance, master data management, metadata engineering, business rules management/execution, data architecture and design, and the organization of Enterprise Information Management.

Malcolm is a well-known presenter at conferences in the US and Europe, writes columns in trade journals, and has authored the books "Managing Reference Data in Enterprise Databases," "How to Build a Business Rules Engine," and "Definitions in Information Management." He holds an M.A. from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. from the University of Bristol.

Charles Corbezzolo is a Senior Manager responsible for Data Adherence within the U.S. Chief Data Office of TD Bank. Charles is responsible for ensuring the quantitative proof of adherence to all enterprise standards within the United States, manages the RCSA process and acts as the single point of contact and coordinates all audits, internal or external. Charles has spent has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry serving in roles from trading to process improvement, with the past 8 years in regulatory compliance. Charles is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) and has a BS from Rider University, MS in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and an MS in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Barbara Deemer has recently assumed the role of VP of Financial Systems and has retained her responsibilities as Chief Data Steward at Navient. In that role she leads the Data Governance Council which is comprised of representatives from all Lines of Business. Barbara has 30 years of experience in the Accounting, Finance and Servicing areas. She was the Controller of the Company from 2000 to 2003 until she took an extended leave of absence. She returned to Sallie Mae in 2005 to work on data improvement projects and is now in her current role at Navient focusing on Data Governance and Data Quality and managing the Financial Systems for the corporation.

Carrie Fawcett Carrie Fawcett

Carrie Fawcett joined TIAA in June of 2015 and is currently responsible for the development and implementation of business-led, data governance practices and capabilities at TIAA. Mrs. Fawcett assists business area sponsors in developing proper data and process governance capabilities wherever they are required, including Tax, Corporate Services, Regulatory Reporting, and Financial management. Mrs. Fawcett also participates in the Finance & Actuarial Data Governance Committee, the Enterprise Reference Data Workgroup and the company’s Enterprise Data Governance Council.

Prior to joining TIAA, Mrs. Fawcett worked as a Data Steward Executive at Bank of America.  During this time, she led the implementation of data practices for Corporate Finance including BCBS 239/Risk Data Aggregation strategy and the implementation of authoritative data sources inclusive of adoption and remediation.  Mrs. Fawcett also has experience in the development of common customer master data.

Lowell Fryman is responsible for directing thought leadership in the Customer Success practice of Collibra. He has been a practitioner in the data management industry for three decades and is recognized as a leader in data governance, analytics and data quality having hands-on experience with implementations across most industries. Lowell is a co-author of the book “Business Metadata; Capturing Enterprise Knowledge” and a coauthor of “The Data and Analytics Playbook” published in 2016. Lowell is a past adjunct professor at Daniels College of Business, Denver University and current VP of Education for DAMA-I Rocky Mountain Chapter (RMC), as well as an active speaker at international conferences. He focuses on practical data governance techniques and has trained thousands of professionals in data governance, data warehousing, data management and data quality techniques.

Julie Gribben is a Consultant on the Finance Data Governance (FDG) Team at Nationwide.   Her primary responsibilities consist of  educating Finance associates on the role of Data Governance, including onboarding of new associates, data stewards and FDG Board members; defining, updating and enforcing governance standards and reporting metrics to measure compliance; serving as the liaison to the Finance Data Steward organization and FDG Board;  serving as the central collection point for FDG dashboard metrics and facilitating the implementation of enhancements to the existing scorecard; and actively driving and supporting Process Optimization initiatives.  Julie has been a Nationwide associate for 22 years.   Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Ohio Dominican College and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green and Black Belt.

Michele Koch Michele Koch

Michele Koch is the Director of Enterprise Data Intelligence and the Data Governance Office at Navient.  Michele was responsible for the successful design and implementation of the enterprise Data Governance and Data Quality Programs at Navient.  Their Data Governance Program won The Data Warehouse Institute’s (TDWI) 2010 Best Practices Award for the Data Governance category and the 2011 Data Governance Best Practice Award.  She is also responsible for the data modeling team who provides support to development teams and the business user community, the enterprise data warehouse team, and the business analytics team.  Her 35 years of experience include applying structured analysis and design methods for process and data modeling, managing client/server and mainframe DBAs, and consulting at Fortune 500 companies. Michele received dual masters’ degrees in MIS and Computer Systems Applications from The American University and a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.

Joel Lutz created and now leads Vanguard’s Enterprise Data Governance and Privacy Department, which focuses on orchestrating people, processes, and technology across Vanguard’s global operations to ensure Vanguard’s data is treated as a vital corporate asset. This includes implementing a global data governance program, a global privacy program, a global records management program, and a global governance, risk, and compliance technology platform. 

Joel graduated from Tulane Law School and began his legal career in private practice focusing on complex business litigation, primarily in the area of state and local taxation. In 2008, he joined The Vanguard Group’s Legal Department where he managed a team of lawyers and analysts advising on a wide range of internal clients on corporate and contract matters. In addition to his law degree, Joel holds bachelor degrees in Economics and Business Management and a Masters Degree in Finance and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP).

Michael McKenzie has been a Data Steward under Fannie Mae's Enterprise Data Stewardship program, since January 2016. He is responsible for facilitating business adoption and execution of the program in concert with other enterprise data capabilities.

Previously, Michael dedicated 12 years to managing Fannie Mae Single Family data development and production processes including business requirements, vendor management, governance, training, data quality, and ongoing improvement. 

Prior to Fannie Mae, he provided consulting services to primary and secondary mortgage lenders in their efforts to load, integrate and provision data; and redefine functions and processes based on mergers and acquisitions. 

Michael has a degree from the ICM School of Business and is a candidate for Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

In addition to overseeing the master data management and customer analytics initiatives, Lynn O’Connor leads the enterprise data governance function for M&T Bank within the Enterprise Data Office. Lynn has been a longtime senior sponsor of data management at M&T Bank. In a previous role, she was the first leader to create an enterprise level datamart, which originated in the Marketing department but was quickly adopted by the entire organization.

David Plotkin is the Director of Metadata Services at MUFG, directing metadata activity in support of data management, including applications such as Collibra Data Governance Center. He was formerly the Data Governance Competency Center Manager for Wells Fargo, working heavily in Data Stewardship and Metadata. He was also Global Head of Data Stewardship for AIG, where he was responsible for rolling out data stewardship as part of an overall Data Governance and Data Management effort. He has previously been a consultant for EMC, working on data quality, data governance and master data management engagements at client companies. He has also previously managed Data Governance at an insurance company and managed data quality at two large banks.  He has been working with data governance, data modeling, metadata and data quality for nearly 30 years. He is a popular speaker at DAMA chapters and conferences, and serves as a subject matter expert on many topics around metadata, data governance, business rules, and data quality. He also is the author of the book “Data Stewardship, an actionable guide to effective Data Management and Data Governance”.

Michael Randall is the Director of the Data Integration and Quality team in Finance Data Governance (FDG) at Nationwide.   Michael's tenure with FDG includes leading efforts to implement a business driven reference data tool, with workflow, to streamline the change request process. He recently led the effort to transform Finance Data Governance to align with industry best practices, which included the team charter, data stewards organization, data quality and change management, as well as providing thought leadership to reorganize the team around the core functions.  He is currently leading efforts to implement a data quality tool to further support the transformational efforts. Michael has been a Nationwide associate for 24 years, with 6 1/2 years as a leader in FDG.  Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

After starting her career in aerospace in the field of computational fluid dynamics, she switched to finance 20 years ago, building customized automated underwriting software for banking clients. She holds a BAsc in System Design Engineering and a MSc in Physics from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Tonya Walker is the Associate Vice President of the Finance Data Governance (FDG) team at Nationwide.  Under Tonya's leadership, the FDG team has undergone a transformation creating a renewed sense of direction which was formalized by rewriting the team's charter and reorganizing the team to align around the core functions. Through an established framework, standards, and procedures Finance Data Governance drives consistency, comparability and standardization amongst the creation, translation, and movement of Finance data to instill confidence in the information produced.
