Governance in 3D
Ravi Chivukula, Director of Business Solutions, ASG
Governance programs are complex undertakings, especially if key goals are risk and compliance. The complexity can be tamed with Governance viewed and managed along three different dimensions:
  • The Target dimension allows you to manage the end-goal of your Governance programs. It lets you work your way back from the desired goals, thereby optimizing your resources to your goals. Examples include business process, business metadata, lineage, reporting, etc.
  • The Process dimension allows you to manage the things that are required to achieve your goals. Examples include stewardship, orchestration, data quality, profiling, etc.
  • The Technology dimension refers to the enabling technology that supports the goal of your Governance program. Examples include applications, data stores, models, etc.

By managing Governance along these dimensions, enterprises can achieve 360 degree compliance and risk mitigation with efficiency.  ASG, along with its partner Collibra, will present its best-of-breed solution to enable risk management and compliance with the integrated Collibra–Stewardship Center and ASG-Rochade.

T4: Managing Core Reference Data in Finance
Malcolm Chisholm, President, AskGet Inc.

Core Reference Data is often known as "code tables" and is a critical part of reference data in finance. Unfortunately, the structural simplicity and low volume of Core Reference Data often causes it to be overlooked. Yet more than 50% of the business semantics of a financial subject area can be expressed in Core Reference Data, and defects in it, or misunderstanding of its usage, can lead to widespread problems. This tutotial describes the characteristics of Core Reference Data and outlines the specific governance needs that it has - which are quite different to other classes of Reference Data. Special attention is given to practical techniques for managing Core Reference Data, including issues in global projects, and the need for a federated approach. Recent interest in vendors is also surveyed.

Attendees will learn:
  • What is Core Reference Data, and what sets it apart from other types of Reference Data
  • The specific characteristics of Core Reference Data, and their bearing on Data Management
  • Governance approaches to Core Reference Data, including both the Operational and IT perspectives.
  • Practical techniques for managing Core Reference Data
