XML: The Strategic Implications for Data Administration, Management & Architecture
This seminar shows you how to quickly and easily start incorporating XML capabilities into your data management programs.
We have all witnessed the excitement associated with developing application programs using a single programming language that will run on multiple
platforms. "Write it once and run the application anywhere" has been the rallying cry.
Those of us concerned with data challenges (such as delivery, integration, quality, interchange, etc.) now have access to a technology that allows
us to attack these problems in a similar manner - Extensible Markup Language (XML). XML technologies enable data personnel to wrap and deliver organizational data that is described with accompanying metadata. By
transmitting the metadata with the data – a number of data challenges may be addressed effectively. These include:
- Many applications that have been to challenging to take on – now become possible because XML-wrapped data can be
understood by any application that has been XML-enabled.
- XML data wrapping offers us the ability to extend traditional data management capabilities into other
dimensions. Using XML – data administrators can more easily integrate existing corporate data assets such as data in warehouses, legacy systems, e-mail and other office documents.
- Standardized delivery of organizational data via an XML-based portal provides a central point of integration.
This permits organizations to begin accruing tangible savings (of hundreds of millions) on many aspects of organizational information integration and delivery.
- In many cases XML permits a simple to use and inexpensive to implement yet more robust means of electronically
exchanging data than - electronic data interchange (EDI
Objectives
- Understand how XML and metadata management are inextricably linked as "the" new way of delivering data
solutions to enterprise information challenges.
- Learn how the existing XML component architecture ensures that it can provide the basis for solving many forms of data
integration that have been challenging organizations for years.
- Understand why XML-based architectures enable organizations to implement solutions that are solid foundations for
future development and not just the latest "silver bullet."
- Understand how XML can compliment ERP initiatives and (in case you have not yet jumped onto the ERP bandwagon) how XML
can help you save money on your planning and implementing your ERP.
- Learn why XML is already the cornerstone of e-business and e-commerce
- Understand how XML will cause us to rethink the role of traditional data management technologies such as CASE tool(s)
and repositories.
- Understand how organizations can easily and tangibly profit from XML-based information delivery portals.
