Understanding Meta Data: Current Practices

Meta data management continues to play a major role in all Corporate Information Factory (CIF) implementations. Most people already know what it is and why meta data is very important. The focus of this seminar will be the presentation of the current techniques and infrastructure supporting the collection, storage and delivery of meta data. Included is a discussion on the Microsoft Repository offering and the Meta Exchange Coalition standards.

Objectives

Describe the different types, the capabilities and the value for each type of meta data,
Understand the issues for determining the meta data architectures of:

Meta data meta model
Centralized meta data
De-centralized meta data

Understand the resource and tool requirements for implementation and maintenance of each type of meta data
Understand the current repository and interchange standards in particular:

Meta Exchange Coalition standard
Microsoft repository

Understand the capabilities for meta data delivery including intranet capabilities.
